China took the lead in completing the world’s first live UHV DC transmission operation

It was learned from the Hubei Provincial Electric Power Company that the world’s first ±800 kV HVDC transmission live work had been successfully carried out recently. This task was undertaken by 7 professionals of the company’s subsidiary, Hubei Ultra High Voltage Power Transmission and Distribution Company, Hu Guang. .
It is reported that only China is currently building ± 800 kV UHVDC transmission projects.
UHV transmission has the characteristics of high voltage level, long transmission distance, large transmission capacity, and non-synchronized networking. According to the data, the ± 800 kV DC UHV transmission capacity is between 6.2 and 6.4 million kWh per hour. Unplanned outages will cause huge economic losses and pose a great threat to the stable operation of the power grid. The live operation as an important means of overhauling UHV transmission lines will effectively ensure uninterrupted and continuous power supply of UHV transmission lines, which is of great significance for ensuring the safety and reliable operation of the power grid.
The live operation was carried out at the UHV DC test site of the State Grid Corporation of China, and it took more than one hour before and after. Under ±800 kV UHV DC transmission conditions, technicians wearing protective clothing successfully completed safety protection parameter tests, repair of equipotential conductors, and replacement of isoelectric spacer bars.
According to Su Zhiyi, an expert from the State Grid Corporation of China, this is the world's first live operation of ±800 kV live work, marking a major breakthrough in our country's UHV live working technology.
Hubei EHV Power Transmission and Transformation Company once took a leading position in the 500 kV UHV AC/DC live line operation technology. In order to meet the needs of UHV live working, the company has successively developed a series of ultra-high voltage live working tools such as the eight-split wire feeder, hydraulic oil pump screw, and split-type insulated tie rod that have obtained national independent intellectual property rights. More complete UHV live working standard.
