Cummins China Sales More than $1.7 Billion


On February 14th, the company’s 2007 financial report released by Cummins showed that last year Cummins’ sales reached a record high of US$13 billion, a 15% increase from 11.4 billion in 2006. It is reported that this is Cummins's global performance for four consecutive years of high innovation, once again demonstrated the strong strength of Cummins as a diversified global power leader.

In 2007, Cummins’ international business outside the United States accounted for 54% of the company's sales, of which emerging markets represented by China were particularly eye-catching. In 2007, Cummins China's sales exceeded US$1.7 billion, an increase of 50% over the same period of the previous year, and several major projects made good progress. These include:

Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd., a joint venture with Beiqi Foton, was officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in October last year and is expected to produce Cummins' next-generation 2.8-liter and 3.8-liter inline four-cylinder high-pressure direct-injection light-duty diesel engines in Beijing next year. The products will be widely used. Light trucks, pickup trucks, SUVs, MPVs, and small off-highway equipment marks Cummins's formal entry into China's light diesel engine market with huge potential.

The new generation of 13-liter fully electronically controlled heavy-duty truck engine developed in cooperation with Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. is underway with the joint R&D center of the engine jointly established by both companies. It is expected that it will be officially put into production at Dongfeng Cummins next year.

In July of last year, Chongqing Cummins formally introduced Cummins' new-generation QSK series 19-liter and 38-liter all-electrically-controlled engine platforms, which will further increase the competitiveness of China Recycling in China's high-powered engine market. At the same time, Xi'an Cummins, a joint venture with Shaanxi Automobile Group, was officially put into production in August last year.

In addition, the Cummins Fuel System was officially laid in Wuhan in June last year and it is expected that the new plant will be put into use in the second quarter of this year. The Cummins Emissions Processing System's local production preparation work steadily progressed last year. It is expected that the Beijing plant will be put into operation this year to meet the post-processor required for Euro IV emission standards.
