Void condition in the heap

The voids in the ore pile include voids formed between the ore and the ore, pores in contact with the ore (or points), and cracks and pores on the surface and inside of the ore. The pores of the ore are naturally formed, and the other part is caused by blasting, handling, and especially crushing operations. Some of the pores inside the ore are not connected to the surface, and this part of the pores does not work during the leaching operation. The pore volume fraction of the heap varies widely. Generally speaking, the volume of the void between the ore and the ore accounts for 30% to 40% of the total volume of the heap. It is estimated that the volume of internal cracks in the ore produced by blasting, handling, and especially crushing is 2% to 4% of the total volume of the ore. The pore volume naturally occurring inside the ore varies greatly, depending on the origin of the ore and the degree of weathering after mineralization.
