Michelin wins the "Prince Michael International Road Safety Award"

The Michelin Group's contribution to global road safety has become a model in the industry. Michelin's recent award of the "Prince Michael International Road Safety Award" is another testimony to this recognition.

“Michelin is an industry leader in road safety innovation, not only in product development, but also in the company’s care for employees.” Prince Michael of Kent County, the Royal Sponsor of the Global Road Safety Council, said, “Mich. Corporate responsibility undertaken on global projects is an outstanding example for all companies."

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Michelin has been active in launching road safety activities globally to alleviate this serious problem. Only for a long time to continue to promote the global road safety business, Michelin Group's development strategy to improve tire performance is more meaningful. In addition to focusing on tires and their performance, Michelin also achieved safer driving by providing training for its employees and promoting road safety to the public. The challenge of meeting road safety is also a concrete manifestation of one of Michelin's core values - respect for others.

Globally, more than 7,000 people are killed every week in work-related traffic accidents, including traffic accidents that occur during and after work. As a tire manufacturer, Michelin has initiated many activities within the company to promote safe driving practices and more efficient traffic management. Since 2009, all sales and marketing staff have participated in road safety training courses. The Michelin Group provided a series of practical information tools including information on road safety awareness to all employees of the country where the production plant is located. In the United Kingdom, since the implementation of a comprehensive and comprehensive driving policy five years ago, the accident rate of the Group’s fleet has been at least reduced by half.

In addition to the company's internal affairs, Michelin has also launched several road safety plans in the countries where it operates in the past 10 years. Each plan is based on local conditions in each country. It aims to raise people’s awareness of road-related hazards and implement them locally. Some of these programs are particularly targeted at young people, cyclists and pedestrians, who are considered to be the most vulnerable road users.

A prominent example is the “Michelin Adolescent Bicycles” event, which aims to help young people learn traffic regulations in an easy and fun way and let them understand the importance of wearing helmets while riding. Since 1998, only 184,000 children have participated in this activity in Italy. In recent years, the event has also been held in France and plans to promote it to more emerging countries. In addition, Michelin also cooperated with the municipal committees of Italy and Brazil to jointly organize the "safest road" program for students. The "Tire Pressure Propaganda" campaign, which began in 2003, aims to make motorcyclists understand the importance of maintaining proper tire pressure to ensure the safety of themselves and other travelers.

In China, Michelin launched the "My First Step, Safety Further" Michelin China road safety campaign in 2011 and issued the Michelin China Road Safety Declaration, calling on every employee, every partner, and every customer of Michelin. Each consumer will jointly abide by the basic principles of road safety and actively assume responsibility for creating a safer road traffic environment. At the same time, since 2011, Michelin has carried out the “Road Safety Campus” activity in many primary schools nationwide, aiming to cultivate children’s road safety awareness from childhood and imparting road safety knowledge in a fun and entertaining manner. To date, more than 5,000 primary school students from seven cities have benefited from it. Michelin plans to promote this activity to elementary schools in more cities, embedding safety concepts and knowledge into the hearts of more children.

The above projects all reflect Michelin's long-term commitment to road safety, and participating in the signing of national and European road safety charters is also an important manifestation of this. In addition, Michelin is also involved in initiatives initiated by the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), especially in China, ASEAN countries, India, Africa and Brazil to promote the five-year pilot project. In May 2011, Michelin became one of the first companies to sign a commitment to global road safety and supported the United Nations-sponsored 10-year (2011-2020) plan for road safety activities. In 2012, the Michelin Group plans to invest 6 million euros in support of global road safety activities.
