Nanhua aniline achievements gather many innovations

The 100,000-ton/year aniline complete set of technology development and application projects jointly undertaken by Nanjing Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. and Tsinghua University has realized the industrialization of many new technologies and new achievements. In particular, the static mixing technology replaces the kettle nitration process, which can avoid the recurrence of the similar “11·13” explosion of aniline.

Recently, the 100,000 tons/year aniline plant of Nanhua that has just been identified by the Science and Technology Development Department of Sinopec Corp. is the device with the largest capacity in China using domestically developed single-technology systems. The device has been built and operated for more than one year since last year. The production is safe and stable. The output of the product exceeds the designed capacity. The product quality is superior to the national standard of superior grade products and can fully meet the domestic MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) production plant's aniline product. The quality requirements, product consumption and energy consumption indicators, catalyst single-pass life and product quality are superior to those of similar domestic devices, and the mixed wastewater meets the standard emission. The overall technology has reached the international advanced level and has good economic and social benefits.

This aniline device based on independent innovation has realized the industrial application of many new technologies and new achievements in key nitrification, hydrogenation of nitrobenzene, and sewage treatment. In particular, the nitrification section adopts multi-point multi-compartment feeding, multi-group multi-headed heat-exchanger nitration reactors and static mixing technologies, which solve various problems that may be caused by the large-scale nitration reactors. At present, most of China's nitrobenzene production adopts a relatively backward kettle nitration process. This traditional process requires the use of an excess of nitric acid, but it is extremely prone to produce a series of nitrophenolates that need to be removed by lye washing. If the phenoxides are too much in the distillation column, the control is not good, the inside of the column is too dry and the temperature is too high, which can easily cause explosions. The Jilin “11·13” aniline explosion accident was due to negligence during shutdown and maintenance, and the steam valve was not closed in time and the feed temperature was too high.

The device also adopts an internationally advanced level of sewage treatment technology and can fully meet the sewage treatment requirements of the device.

Aniline is an important organic chemical raw material and chemical product. It can be used in the production of more than 300 chemical products and organic intermediates. It is widely used in dyes, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, explosives, spices, rubber accelerators, etc. MDI production, development and utilization of the prospects are very broad. Last year, domestic aniline production capacity, output and demand all showed rapid growth. It is estimated that domestic aniline production capacity will reach 1.072 million tons in 2007 (excluding Lanhua and Jilin Chemicals).
