Renewable energy investment tends to heat up state-owned energy companies

Since the official implementation of the "Renewable Energy Law" for one year, new energy development has become hot. In the past year, large-scale central enterprises, including the oil, electricity, and coal energy sectors, have entered the field and their long-term development has been laid out.

Yesterday, Chen Deming, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission, pointed out at the symposium on the implementation of the “Renewable Energy Law” that the current large-scale state-owned enterprises include the State Grid Corporation of China, the five largest power generation companies, the three major oil groups, Shenhua Group, and Yangtze Power (the forum). The Guangzhou Nuclear Group and some provincial energy investment companies have entered the renewable energy field.
The manuscript was compiled by China Chemical Network, said Chen Deming, "Renewable Energy Law" provides investors with legal protection, and enhance the confidence of enterprises in the investment in renewable energy industry. The data show that in 2006, the annual renewable energy utilization has reached 180 million tons of standard coal, which is about 7.5% of the total primary energy consumption.

It is understood that the State Grid Corporation of China invested 130 million yuan in April to build the first phase of bio-power generation.

PetroChina said at the beginning of the year that during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, they will make breakthroughs in solar power, wind energy utilization, and geothermal development. At present, all projects have entered a substantive stage. Last year, a number of demonstration projects for photovoltaic power generation, wind power generation, and geothermal resources development and utilization were built in Nagqu, Tibet, Liaohe Oilfield and Xinjiang Oilfield.

In terms of fuel ethanol, Sinopec and COFCO Limited recently signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop biomass energy and bio-chemicals. The two sides will jointly build a production plant with annual production of 1 million to 1.2 million tons of fuel ethanol in the next five years. In addition, at the end of last year, PetroChina also entered the field of biofuels. It signed a cooperation agreement with the Sichuan provincial government for the development of ethanol fuel and biodiesel using sweet potatoes and jatropha trees. It will soon establish a production capacity of 60,000 tons of biodiesel.

As the largest coal producer in China, Shenhua Group, the first coal-to-oil project launched last year is an important part of the National Energy Security Strategy led by the National Development and Reform Commission.

In view of the National Development and Reform Commission's "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" for energy, which has established a policy orientation for the development of hydropower, Changjiang Power is gradually increasing the development of the hydropower ladder in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

At the same time, a large number of private enterprises have also entered the field of renewable energy, and local governments have also combined local advantages to develop renewable energy sources. For example, Shandong has formed a more mature solar energy development market.
