Asian styrene monomer market demand will support pure benzene prices next year
According to reports, although the excess supply of pure benzene in Asia will further increase, the strong demand for downstream styrene monomer will support Asia's benzene prices next year. At present, half of Asia's production of pure benzene is used for styrene monomer production in the region, while a large part of it is exported to the United States. Due to the stable demand of Asia's styrene monomer industry, Asian manufacturers have achieved very good profits for most of 2010. On December 24th, the transaction price of pure benzene was at 1050-1065 USD/ton, which was the highest price in November and was 10-15 USD/ton higher than the closing price on December 23. In terms of styrene monomer, due to the planned maintenance of many installations in Northeast Asia, the tight supply will prompt the price to increase in the first quarter.
